Spinning Jenny Way
Many buildings were demolished to make way for the bus station, including the Woolpack Inn. Here too stood the home of Thomas Highs, who Leigh folk believe was the true inventor of the 'Spinning Jenny', a machine for spinning thread, though James Hargreaves from Blackburn was historically credited with the invention. Leigh's last purpose built cinema, The Regal, also stood on this site.
Across the road, between Kingsleigh Church and The Eagle and Child pub stands The Casba, a former shopping arcade but originally the Victoria Billiards Hall which opened in 1910.
